Steven James Scott

"I first began making pictures when i was fifteen...windows, clouds, empty rooms. I didn't know then, why i was so compelled to photograph these everyday things, and it has taken me twenty years to discover; I am in love with light."

Raised in Alaska, Steven James Scott spent his formative years hopping glaciers and listening to punk rock. Enchanted by the endless daylight of the Midnight Sun, and the shimmering nights of the Aurora Borealis, light (and shadow) was a profound inspiration.

Creativity led, and Steven followed, leaving Alaska for Seattle, Washington. After receiving his Film degree in 1997, he worked in film and television for ten years, in Seattle, Tokyo and Los Angeles. Being acutely visual, making pictures are, for him, the purest form of expression. Naturally, making the leap from motion pictures to stills was an intuitive jump. Thus, a photographer was born (again).

The Universe has responded in kind, providing fantastic opportunities at every turn. Citing the creative freedom in the abstract, spontaneous and artistry of fashion photography, he has relocated to Europe, where he now lives and works in Berlin. Steven is continually inspired by great fashion and design.

In addition to commercial work, he is also developing as a fine art photographer, and has exhibited in Seattle and Tokyo, as well as upcoming shows in Warsaw and Luxembourg in Fall 2009.
